CMYK PROCESS PRINTING BUSINESS CARDS

CMYK process printing is a system where a color image is separated into 4 different color values (called a color separation) by the use of filters and screens. This used to be done with photographic film on a graphic arts camera, but is usually done digitally with software now. The result is a color separation of 4 images that when transferred to printing plates and sequentially printed on a printing press with dry-toner or colored inks cyan (blue), magenta (red), yellow and black (the K in CMYK), reproduces the original color image. Most of the entire spectrum or gamut of colors are reproduced with just the four process ink colors or dry-toner based. The CMYK four color printing process is universally used in the graphic arts and commercial printing industry for the reproduction of color images and text.

CMYK Process Printing Features

  • CMYK uses the same 4 standardized base colors all the time (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) either digital toner or offset printing process. During the offset printing process, the ink rollers on the printing press transfer from the image file directly onto a printing plate. Digital printing is the process of printing digital-based images directly onto a variety of media substrates. There is no need for a printing plate, unlike with offset printing.

  • Small dots of these colors are printed at different angles to create the printed image

  • The most widely used and cost effective color system in commercial printing

  • It's significantly cheaper than toner based or digital printing for larger quantity runs

  • Full 4C background color CMYK printing process would have color difference. The same CMYK colors appear very differently depending on the type of paper used.

  • The main difference between Pantone and CMYK printing is the level of accuracy when it comes to the final colors. The Pantone system will deliver the highest % exact color every time, no matter who is printing or designing, whereas CMYK can result in color variances.

  • Pantone provides a universal language of color that enables color-critical decisions through every stage of the workflow for brands and manufacturers.

About RGB-CMYK

One of the biggest mistakes you can make when designing something for print is to assume it will look the same on paper as it looks on your computer and mobile phone screen. While it’s easy to see how this mistake can be made, it’s important to understand why you need to know the difference between RGB and CMYK colours when it comes to print. RGB is the colour scheme that is often associated with electronic display screens such as cameras, TV’s and computer monitors. Television uses the RGB color model because it is an additive color model that can create a wide range of colors by combining different intensities of red, green, and blue light. The RGB model is used for sensing, representation, and display of images in electronic systems like televisions and computers. RGB and CMYK are the two main color choices for visual media, but choosing the right one can have a huge impact on the end result of your project. While RGB is ideal for on-screen viewing, RGB files may also be used for digital presses that default to RGB. However, some color variation is inevitable.

  • Scanners, digital cameras and computer monitors use red, green and blue (RGB) light to display color.

  • Commercial printing presses print with cyan, magenta, yellow and black (CMYK) ink, called process printing, instead of RGB light, and therefore produce a different range of color.

  • To print on a four-color press, all RGB files must be converted into CMYK color.
